Zaini founded the NUS Dance Ensemble in 1992, and as its artistic director, led the company to competitions and exchanges to Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Macau, the Philippines and the Czech Republic. His other choreographic works include Beauty World (2015), Sinaran the Movie (Malaysia, 2014), Samarpaana Festival (Bangalore and Singapore 2013), National Broadway Company (TheatreWorks / Esplanade 2012), and MIDEM Music Festival (Cannes 2012). He was chief choreographer of NDP 2014, 2015 and 2018. He has also been invited to be in the panel of adjudicators for numerous dance competitions including The Royal Dance Off (2011-2017) and Singapore Youth Festival Presentation (Ministry of Education, 2013-2018).
As artistic director of Republic Polytechnic’s The Republic Cultural Centre (2007-2017), he headed the Arts Development team and over 20 student arts interest groups, and produced the polytechnic’s annual Momentum Dance Festival, IGNITE Music Festival and Reflections Arts Festival. He is currently heading the Arts Development team at the Institute of Technical Education.
Zaini graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore.
